Tragic Final Moments: Tow Truck Driver Killed on New Year’s Eve in Spring Valley Crash

The tragic final moments of tow truck driver Dale Alan Pumphery came to an end on New Year’s Eve when he was struck by a Prius in Spring Valley, California. The San Diego County Medical Examiners Office has identified Pumphery, 63, of El Cajon, as the deceased in the crash which occurred on State Route 125 and Jamacha Blvd.

Emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures on Pumphery, but he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Prius involved in the collision did not sustain any injuries.

Understanding the Crash on State Route 125
The crash occurred around 8 pm on SR-125 and Jamacha Blvd. in Spring Valley. Pumphery was in the roadway, attempting to remove a vehicle that was stuck in a stranded position in the southbound lane. He began to move away from the driver’s side of his tow truck when the Prius struck him as he partially entered the No 4. lane.

Investigation into the Crash
At present, authorities are investigating the crash, but drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as influencing factors in the collision. One lane of Southbound SR-125 was closed for several hours shortly after the crash occurred.
